Siting and soil
A pond needs a watershed big enough to fill it and soil tight enough to hold it. We'll look at the ground and tell you honestly whether the spot you have in mind will hold water, before anybody spends money finding out the hard way.
Building it
Core trench, dam built in compacted lifts, principal and emergency spillways sized for the drainage above, and the banks shaped and seeded so they don't erode into the water you just made.
Repairing an existing pond
Leaking dams, failed spillways, and ponds silted in to the point of being a mudflat. Often fixable.
